DATUK SERI DR. KK CHAI LEADS MALAYSIAN DELEGATION TO MAURITIUS MEETS WITH PRESIDENT AND MINISTER OF COMMERCE EXPLORING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES BETWEEN TWO COUNTRIES AND KK GROUP

Mauritius – A Malaysian delegation, led by KK Supermart Group founder and executive chairman, Datuk Seri Dr. KK Chai and Dato Pardip Kumar, along with business delegates from Singapore, Thailand, and South Africa, recently visited Mauritius to explore potential business opportunities. The delegation was personally received by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Prithvirajsing Roopun G.C.S.K.

 In addition, the delegation was welcomed by several key entities, including the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Marie Christine Dorine Chukowry, as well as various parties  such as High Commissioner of Mauritius, the Economic Development Board (EDB), the Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), the Chinese Chamber of Commerce Mauritius, Hindu Business Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Professionals, Landscope Mauritius, top management from Mau Bank and Standard Chartered, Human Trust Service, and other local entrepreneurs from various industries such as retail, warehousing and logistics, medical healthcare, digitalization/ICT, financial services, real estate, biotech, and aggrotech. This visit marks an important milestone in Malaysia’s international business cooperation.

 Datuk Seri Dr. KK Chai also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mauritius Planters Agricultural By-Products Processing Cooperative Society (MPABP Cooperative Society), exploring various areas of cooperation and business opportunities.

 The trade relationship between Malaysia and Mauritius has been steadily growing. According to the latest figures, bilateral trade between the two countries has reached an impressive level, reflecting strong economic ties. In 2023, the total trade volume between Malaysia and Mauritius was approximately MYR 1.35 billion (about USD 300 million).

During the visit, the Malaysian delegation had a high-level meeting with the President of Mauritius, discussing potential cooperation and enhancing bilateral trade and investment visions between Mauritius and the represented countries. The subsequent meeting with the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection further emphasized strengthening economic ties and exploring paths for mutual growth in various sectors including retail, logistics, healthcare, ICT, financial services, real estate, biotechnology, and agrotech.

 The MoU signing between Datuk Seri Dr. KK Chai and the MPABP Cooperative Society took place at the Economic Development Board (EDB), witnessed by the High Commissioner, the Chairman of EDB, the CEO of EDB, the Strategic Advisor of EDB, and other distinguished delegates. This MoU aims to foster cooperation and enhance business operations, benefiting both countries, and also exploring business opportunities for KK Group.

 The MPABP Cooperative Society plays a crucial role in Mauritius’ external economic development. It focuses on promoting cooperation and development to support its members’ economic interests, particularly in retail, agriculture and related industries.

Datuk Seri Dr. KK Chai noted that this visit signifies an important step in strengthening Malaysia’s international partnerships. He expressed optimism about potential collaborations, stating that they would not only benefit KK Group’s business but also contribute to the economic growth of both Mauritius and Malaysia.

 From a macro perspective, Datuk Seri Dr. KK Chai commented that this international cooperation would not only benefit the economic development of Malaysia and Mauritius but also bring broader advantages to the entire Southeast Asian region. He highlighted Mauritius’ strategic position as a crucial link between Africa and Asia, which can help Malaysian businesses tap into new markets and resources. Strengthening cooperation with Mauritius will enhance Malaysia’s international competitiveness and promote economic integration within Southeast Asia, fostering regional economic prosperity and development.
